Real Wedding: Anthony and Bethany's Wedding Ceremony at La Escollera, Ibiza
Anthony and Bethany got in touch with me in January this year after booking their venue Restaurant La Escollera in Es Cavallet, a beach restaurant on the south of Ibiza with an incredible food and cocktail menu - and most importantly - its stunning panoramic sea view.
I met the events coordinator at La Escollera last year, and having been there for lunch with my boyfriend and friends over the winter it was high up on my list of dream venues to perform a wedding ceremony at.
The ceremony area is set away from the restaurant just along the cliff edge, giving it plenty of privacy, as well as a pretty and dramatic entrance.
The Ceremony Script
Bethany and Anthony chose the Written For You ceremony package, and soon after booking they sent me a beautifully written story of their relationship, which began 13 years ago, complete with hilarious anecdotes and a Rom Com-esque proposal!
I contacted members of their friends and family too, so that I could get to know Anthony and Bethany a little bit deeper and from a different perspective.
They each gave me their own favourite stories about the couple, and additional details to the one that A&B given me themselves, which make all the difference when writing a personal script - and each of the replies I received had me either crying with laughter or from the emotion of how sweet the words were!
I asked them both what they love about each other the most, and I got back pages of lovely notes.
With all of these details I wrote their ceremony script, which was personal, funny and emotional. It reflected them and their relationship perfectly.
The Sand Unity Ritual
Anthony and Bethany chose a sand unity ritual for their wedding ceremony, which was decorated with their names on either side, and the date and location, as a keepsake and reminder of their special day.
Two friends were chosen to read out poems during the ceremony, Nicola read Union by Robert Fulgham, and their friend Katy wrote a brilliant original poem especially for their wedding day, called Today, which I am lucky enough to be able to share with you. Enjoy!
Today is your wedding day
the day you’ll never forget
A day you’ll always treasure
The time of your first duet
This morning you were two people
but soon Husband and Wife
Today it starts as marriage
tomorrow it’s building a life.
Soon you’ll be together
the rest of your lives will start
the man of her dreams wedded
to woman who stole his heart
Tomorrow you’ll remember today
like the lyrics of a song
the family, friends and music
will be in your minds true and long
From this day you’ll be together
achieving hopes and dreams
unstoppable as a duo
the most formidable of teams
Years from now, like all love
your marriage will be tested
today will be but another testament
to all that love invested
And later still I wish you see
that each and every day
was filled with as much love and joy
as that one day in May
You'll say that was our wedding day
the day we’d never forget
it was just another day we’ll treasure
The time of our first duet
Isn’t she a genius?
Anthony and Bethany wrote their own weddings vows and kept them a secret from each other until the day. Each of them told the other how much they are loved, with adorable details and a touch of humour, and their promises for their marriage and their future together.
Which lead to just a few tears from the bride, groom, and guests!
The Exchange of Rings
The ring exchange is normally a part of the ceremony which results in a giggle, due to hot weather and swollen fingers, but this time we had a little inside joke of our own.
And, of course, after the rings comes…
At the end of the ceremony the guests were lead out by the new husband and wife.
Where they were greeted with flutes of celebratory rosé champagne…
….hugs, handshakes… and more hugs!
I had a little chat and got a quick photo with the newlyweds, I spoke to some friends and family who had helped me get to know Anthony and Bethany and given me so much lovely content for their script, and after saying a quick goodbye to their very cute baby nephew, I made a quiet exit.
And it looks like it was just the very beginning of a magical wedding day….
Before Bethany’s arrival we listened to Heaven by DJ Sammy (feat Do – Candlelight remix)
A Thousand Years by The Piano Guys played for Bethany’s arrival with her father.
A symbolic certificate signing was accompanied by Meaning by Gavin DeGraw
And very aptly, for their exit together, they walked out to Lucky Man by The Verve.
Later that evening they had their first dance to 8 (circle) by Bon Iver.
And a HUGE shoutout to the suppliers who made their day so special:
