Real Wedding: Gayle & Thibault's Luxe & Fun Wedding Day at Aguas de Ibiza

If you’re planning your wedding day and wondering if it’s possible to make it both classy & luxe AND fun & relaxed - Gayle and Thibault’s wedding day last October at Aguas de Ibiza is the perfect example of how it can be done!

The Venue

Thibault and Gayle chose to hold their wedding day at Aguas de Ibiza, a 5 star luxury hotel on the East coast of Ibiza, in Santa Eulalia.

I have a personal love of the venue, as it’s where I performed my first ever wedding ceremony. Plus, the team there are spectacular - organised, hard working and so lovely, so of course I was over the moon to be going back there again…. and it did not disappoint!

Not only is it super-chic, they have lots of different spaces that can be used in different ways, depending on each couples style and requirements.

Gayle and Thibault had their ceremony on the rooftop, next to the pool, with a panoramic view over the mariner, followed by cocktails at the rooftop bar and later, a BBQ dinner and disco in the garden!

The First Look

After getting ready in the hotel with their wedding parties, G&T met downstairs on a red carpet, which had been laid especially for their celebration.

They had their first look photos…

…and a quick mai tai to celebrate the occasion!…

…before heading up to the rooftop for their ceremony.

The Ceremony Script

Gayle and Thibault live together in France, so naturally a lot of their friends and family are French speaking, so it was really important that parts of the ceremony were performed in both languages, so that everyone present could understand and enjoy it.

G&T chose the Classic Ceremony Package and they customised it with so much thought and emotion - choosing music, readings, a live performance and their own vows to inject it with their own personalities and

As in French wedding tradition, the bride and groom both make their entrances with their wedding party.

Thibault entered first alongside his mother and his best men, to Pachelbel's Canon In D Major.

Gayle was walked down the aisle by her father and accompanied by her bridesmaids, to Can't Help Falling in Love, by Haley Reinhart.

The Readings

Excerpt from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, read by Mother of the Bride, Anne

Love is a temporary madness,

it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.

And when it subsides you have to make a decision.

You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together

that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.

Because this is what love is.

Love is not breathlessness,

it is not excitement,

it is not the declaration of eternal passion.

That is just being “in love” which any fool can do.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,

and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.

Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground,

and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches,

they find that they are one tree and not two.

I Carry Your Heart by E.E. Cummins, read in French, by sister of the groom, Laetitia

Live Performance

Just before G&T exchanged vows and rings, Gayle’s sister sang for the couple, an emotional rendition of Ellie Goulding’s cover of Your Song.

The Vows

G&T’s whole ceremony was customised with so much thought and love, but their vows really stole the show.

They each wrote their own personal vows, but before they read them aloud, they answered their symbolic declarations to each other, which I read in both English and French:

Miss Gayle * *, do you take as husband Mr Thibault * – here present?

Mademoiselle Gayle * *, consentez-vous à prendre pour époux, Monsieur Thibault *, ici présent?

Mr Thibault *, do you take as your wife Miss Gayle * * – here present?

Monsieur Thibault *, consentez-vous à prendre pour épouse, Mademoiselle Gayle * *, ici présente?

The answered me in both languages: I do, oui. And then it was time for them to read their vows aloud to each other for the first time.

Gayle read her vows to Thibault in French, as her commitment to him and his family.

And Thibault read his in English, as his commitment to Gayle and her family.

.. complete with a few hilariously honest lines!

The Finalé

G&T exchanged rings, and I read out the last important lines:

I now declare you, Mr Thibault * & Miss Gayle * * unified in marriage!

Je vous déclare, Monsieur Thibault * et Mademoiselle Gayle * * unis par les liens du mariage!

You may now kiss the bride!

Vous pouvez donc embrasser la mariée!

As they kissed the music began to play - Kiss Me, by Sixpence None The Richer - and G&T made their exit together over to the rooftop bar, where they were handed a cocktail and embraced by everyone they love.

Needless to say, everyone was very emotional afterwards, even the Aguas de Ibiza staff and I were gushing about the ceremony as soon as it had finished, it was just so beautiful and emotional.

After drinks on the roof the wedding party went for photos right outside the hotel on a cliff edge, and as the evening set in, G&T made their entrance on the red carpet into the hotel’s garden area where their guests were waiting for them.

The gardens were decorated with arms chairs, sofas, rugs and lots of quirky lighting, giving it a super relaxed atmosphere where everyone could relax and enjoy the evening. Barbeques were set up at the back of the garden and the terrace served as a dance floor. How cool is that?!
